偉そうに歩いている。誰の真似をしているつもりだ。忘れろ。家を乗っ取られた。母からの郵便為替をもって、８シリング、門衛に郵便局のドアを目の前でバンと閉められたな。空腹と歯痛。マダ２フンアル。時計を見ろよ。どうしても。ヘイテンダ。雇われ犬め。ショットガンでバンと一発木っ端微塵に吹き飛ばすぞ微塵に吹き飛んで真鍮のボタンが壁に散る。微塵の破片がカタカタと逆戻り。けがはないかい。ああだいじょうぶ。握手。言ったことがわかるかい。ああ問題ない。握手握手。ああまったく問題ないよ。
このブログは生成した乱数にもとづいて『ユリシーズ』をランダムに読んでいますが、これまでなぜか第3章には当たらず。161回目にして初めて第3章に当たりました。
午前11時ごろ、サンディマウントの海岸を散歩するスティーヴンの心中の声。
スティーヴンは誰の真似をして歩いているのか。おそらく同居人のマリガンだろう。スティーヴンは第１章で住居であるマーテロ―塔の鍵をマリガンに渡した。つまり家を奪われたと思っている。
—Give us that key, Kinch, Buck Mulligan said, to keep my chemise flat.
Stephen handed him the key. Buck Mulligan laid it across his heaped clothes.
—And twopence, he said, for a pint. Throw it there.
Stephen threw two pennies on the soft heap.

あ、ということは、ここは第１章の冒頭のマリガンの歩みと第１章の最後のフレーズ「簒奪者め」が反映されているのか。
Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the stairhead, bearing a bowl of lather on which a mirror and a razor lay crossed.

彼は１年前（1903年）に留学していたパリのことを思い出している。母から送ってもらった為替（money order）を郵便局で換金しようとしたが、扉をしめられてしまったことがあったようだ。
Money orderとは ブログの第104回でふれた、郵便為替（postal order）と同じ仕組みのものだろう。差出人が（おそらく）郵便局の振り出す為替証書を郵送し、受取人は為替を郵便局で換金する。当時すでに英国とフランス間で郵便為替を相互に換金できる取り決めがあたのだろう。検索したところ "Convention between Her Majesty and the President of the French Republic for the Exchange of Post Office Money Orders" (December 8th 1882)、という取り決めがあり、これではないかと思うが。本文は見つけられなかった。
スティーヴンは、パリ時代、虫歯だったが、お金がなくて（あるいは医者嫌いで）治療できず、貧しくて（あるいは歯が痛いのでものが食えず）空腹だったのだろう。今日も歯痛をかかえていて、この章の終わりでも「歯が悪くて医者に行かくべきか」と言っている。
My teeth are very bad. Why, I wonder. Feel. That one is going too. Shells. Ought I go to a dentist, I wonder, with that money? That one. This. Toothless Kinch, the superman. Why is that, I wonder, or does it mean something perhaps?

“Encore deux minutes.” “Fermé.”はフランス語で、それぞれ「まだ２分ある」「閉店」の意味。
スティーヴンは、郵便局の戸を閉めた門衛を、ショットガンで吹き飛ばすことを空想する。ばらばらの人体が壁に飛び散って、また逆戻りで戻ってくる。今でいうアニメーションのようなイメージだが、当時そんなものはないない。何が元ネタなのだろうか。
